Company Overview
This is a fully remote position with an Austin-based startup that is growing rapidly within the hospitality tech industry.
The product is a mobile app that provides guests with a virtual check-in and improved guest experience. It allows self-check-in without stopping at the front desk, provides options to upgrade the room/stay, keyless entry to the actual room, order room service with a tap & more.
Qualifications
- Experience in building SaaS applications using JavaScript and NodeJS stack.
- 7+ years of software development experience (Sr. Level).
- 5 years of experience with Backend.
- 2-3 years of experience with NodeJS.
- Recent backend NodeJS work.
- GraphQL is a major plus
- Past experience working in a AWS environment is nice to have.
- Past experience working with ORM such as PRISMA is nice to have.
- Extensive experience working with databases.
- Expereince working with microservices.
- Working with docker and Kubernetes (not required but nice to have).
- Strong understanding of the typical Software Development Lifecycle.
Responsibilities

Architecture and Design: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable, efficient, and robust backend systems. Lead the architectural decisions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term scalability.

Development: Take ownership of backend development tasks, including implementing new features, enhancing existing functionalities, and optimizing performance. Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices and coding standards.

Database Management: Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and transactions to ensure data integrity, performance, and scalability. Proficiently work with relational and non-relational databases, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.

API Development: Develop and maintain RESTful APIs for internal and external consumption. Ensure APIs are well-documented, secure, and efficient. Integrate with third-party APIs and services as required.

Testing and Quality Assurance: Write unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests to ensure the reliability and correctness of backend systems. Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members to maintain code quality.

Performance Optimization: Identify and address performance bottlenecks in backend systems through profiling, optimization, and caching strategies. Continuously monitor and tune system performance to meet service level objectives.

Security: Implement security best practices to safeguard backend systems against common vulnerabilities, such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting, and authentication bypass. Stay updated with the latest security threats and mitigation techniques.

Deployment and DevOps: Collaborate with DevOps engineers to automate deployment pipelines, infrastructure provisioning, and monitoring tasks. Ensure continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines are reliable and efficient.

Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, API specifications, deployment guides, and troubleshooting manuals. Facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.

Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in backend development. Proactively identify opportunities to leverage new tools and frameworks to improve development processes and outcomes.

Collaboration and Communication: Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including product managers, designers, frontend developers, and other team members. Collaborate closely with frontend and mobile developers to ensure seamless integration and alignment of systems.
